Quality Chiropractic Care For Portsmouth

Portsmouth Chiropractor | Dr. Shawn Shapiro

I watched how our healthcare system made my grandmother sicker...

My grandmother went into the hospital for a mitral valve replacement in 1997; her surgery went fine but her aftercare got her sick! Missed diagnosis, medication errors and apathy on the part of the medical staff, led to her getting worse after the surgery rather than well.

I thought to myself, "there has to be another way to restore dignity to healthcare and improve a person's quality of life, by interacting with a doctor." So I pursued this, and found that our medical system was flawed. It was ultimately based on the premise that everyone who was sick, was somehow missing something.

I started to learn more about vitalism, and about how the body needed to heal itself. That led me to chiropractic, it seemed to me that practiced properly, chiropractic could empower people and restore them to health again, as well as provide a way for their health to improve on a regular basis.

I have always been interested a how the mind relates to the body, I have Bachelors degrees in Human Biology and Psychology. And I got my Doctorate in Chiropractic from Logan University in Chesterfield, Mo. At Logan I was given a fantastic education in clinical diagnosis as well all clinical sciences.

The list of types of problems with which patients come to our practice is staggering: auto-immune diseases like Multiple Sclerosis, TMJ problems, headaches, chronic child ear infections, arm and foot pain, allergies, asthma, ADD and ADHD and, of course, back pain. But the truth is I can't legally treat any of those symptoms.  In the state of New Hampshire, chiropractors are limited to "...the detection and correction or vertebral subluxation complex or syndrome...." This doesn't mean much to lay-people and why should it?!  You have a problem that you want fixed, and you don't need to know how.

My wife Krystn and I spend a lot of time traveling to see our family and friends around the country, we also enjoy being as involved with seacoast community as much as possible. I have served on the Board NESSHA, been a member of Portsmouth Rotary and been involved in my churches fundraising since moving back to NH.

Portsmouth Chiropractor | Dr. Jessica Myers

Dr. Jessica Myers is a third generation chiropractor who brings her seven years of clinical experience to the practice. Her inspiration to become a chiropractor occurred after witnessing a transformation in the life of a child who had a particular spinal misalignment. This particular subluxation led to mental and physical deficiencies in the child and caused him to be labeled as “disabled” in school; however, after chiropractic treatment, he was able to transition from a special-needs class to a conventional classroom.

In 2006, Dr. Jessica brought chiropractic to Madagascar for the first time. She treated a young boy who was scheduled for a severe brain surgery to remove a blockage in the brain's ventricle system. After chiropractic adjustments, the blockage relieved itself and the young child no longer needed to have the dangerous procedure.

Dr. Jessica has advanced training in pediatric and maternity care, as well as nutritional supplementation. Her biggest compliment in practice is when patients refer their friends and family. She looks forward to helping you and your family achieve your wellness goals.

Lauren

Lauren James | Front Desk Supervisor

I’m a South Carolina native who moved to Portsmouth after “living the dream” as a ski bum in Jackson, WY. While out west, I realized I had a passion for learning more about holistic nutrition and preventative health care, so I left the Tetons to further my education. Once in Portsmouth, I found Port City Chiropractic and it was a great fit! I enjoy interacting with the patients who walk through our door and seeing their wellness improve through Dr. Shapiro and the rest of our fantastic staff!

Caitlin Parke | Floor Manager

I have been plagued with headaches since I was a kid and thought that nothing could be done but take medication to try to dull the pain. When I was sixteen, I got in a car accident and my aunt insisted that I get checked out by a family friend who was a chiropractor. At my exam he discovered why I was having so many headaches. I started seeing him regularly and my headaches became fewer and farther between. I have been getting adjusted and recommending others to get adjusted ever since.

I started working at Port City Chiropractic while I was in the area attending college and loved the idea of treating ailments with a holistic approach. It is amazing to witness some of the transformations patients go through during their road to wellness. Watching their incredible improvements and learning from all the providers in the office has allowed me to be more aware of my body and my health and has changed the way I care for myself.
