Pediatric Chiropractic at Port City Chiropractic

smiling kids looking down at the cameraPediatric chiropractic ensures your baby is getting off to a good start in life. As adults, we get injured, and don’t take care of ourselves until later in life when it’s hard to correct. Pediatric chiropractic addresses the problem ASAP to prevent it from becoming a bigger issue in the future.

Ninety percent of babies are born with birth and cranial traumas, causing a misalignment at the atlas, the first bone in the neck. Birth, walking, sitting, standing, playing, and exploring can all be stressful to the spine. Chiropractic care helps ensure proper neurological development, and the brain to body connection is functioning at 100%.

At Port City Chiropractic, we care for your children from birth through life. The bottom line is, babies and kids who get checked from an early age experience better health as they grow, and have the ability to adapt and function at an optimal level.

The Importance of Regular Visits

It has been estimated that kids fall over 2,000 times by the age of 2. After a while, their immature skeletal system is affected without you even realizing it. We have to take care of them during this time to ensure they stay healthy for a lifetime.

Pediatric chiropractic adjusts the alignment of your child’s spine and skeletal system to relieve pressure and stress on their nervous system. We’re very gentle with kids; kids love getting adjusted because they have so much energy afterwards!

Chiropractic is natural, safe and gentle health care for children. During any stage of the growth process, children may develop problems. Regular chiropractic visits allow their bodies to do what they’re meant to—grow, thrive and meet their milestones.

What to Expect

Before your consultation, we ask you to complete a pediatric questionnaire. During the consultation, the doctor will ask questions about your child’s birth experience, any falls, and if they hit their milestones up to now.

The child will undergo an examination to assess their physical condition and identify any misalignments. After the exam, the doctor will discuss his findings with the parents and what course of action is necessary. After getting approval, your child will receive their first adjustment.

Children are adjusted differently from adults. We only use gentle techniques. Newborn adjustments use about the amount of pressure used to test the ripeness of a tomato. As the child grows, we adjust the pressure accordingly.

There’s never any twisting, cracking, or popping; we use sustained contact on the misaligned segment in most instances. Older children may receive adjustments with the Activator tool, which delivers a gentle thrust to the affected area.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will chiropractic hurt my child?

Pediatric chiropractic is very gentle. There’s never any twisting, cracking or popping involved. Children actually enjoy adjustments, because movement is easier afterwards.

Why should I have my newborn or young child adjusted?

Childbirth can be traumatic, with a lot of stress on the newborn’s neck. It’s important to get them checked early to correct any injury that may have occurred. Toddlers often fall as they learn to crawl and walk, and can have unseen injuries that don’t manifest until years later.
